Damouchari is located at the Eastern side of Mount Pelion. As soon as someone arrives, he is left speechless with the generosity of nature. As if the sea is succumbed to the arms of the mountain.
This is a traditional, particularly picturesque settlement with the unique combination of the sea and mountain since the height is over 420 meters, by only driving 5 minutes.
Following the paths on the way to Mouresi, Tsagarada, Fakistra, Plaka and other short, or long distance destinations will delight nature lovers and hikers. Here, you can hear the nightingales also enjoying, in their own way, the beautiful environment.

Damouchari, Pelion. The History.

Damouchari is in the region of Mouresi, a village situated higher up on the mountain. Being the only natural port at Eastern Pelion, it has always had a special meaning to the area. It was established by Venetian sailors during the period of the Venetian Rule in the Mediterranean.
They built a castle to protect themselves, also using it as a station for their supplies and as a place to rest after their long journeys. It is said that the name was originated by foreign sailors, who were chased by pirates in this particular area in the Aegean Sea. There they begged and prayed to the Virgin Mary to be forgiven (dammi chari) or another version claims that it originated from d’amour (for love’s sake).
The image of the small port was their redemption, facing the castle that protected them, forcing the pirates to change course to other places.
The settlement consists of two small coves, which are separated by a small piece of land where you can still find the ruins of the Medieval Castle and the monastery of Agios Nicolaos.
In the beginning of the 20th century there was no road that would connect Tsagarada and the rest of the villages with Volos. In this way, the supply of food and medicine was conducted by the port authorities in Damouchari where there used to be a Customs Office and a Warehouse.
What is common about both Tsagarada and Mouresi is the well-preserved paths and the cobbled roads which are hidden in olive and chestnut trees, the climbing of the steep hillsides on the mountain where you can go through the quaint scenery, or walking by steep rocky canyons.
Nowadays, Damouchari is a quaint tourist resort and a stop for small fishing boats. You can find fish taverns, coffee bars, and accommodation in small traditional hotels.
Damouchari is not just a summer destination. It is worth visiting all year round, especially for those who are fond of photography.

The twin canyon with the small pebbles used to be the seaport of Tsagarada. This is why the cobbled road is connected to the Square of Agia Kiriaki, which is still preserved. This natural port is connected to Old Damouchari with an old wooden bridge. The beach is cut into two by a cape that penetrates the sea and separates the Old Damouchari with small pebbles, and the New Damouchari, the only natural port at the Eastern side of Mount Pelion.
How you will come.
